When unsightly teeth detract from a smile, porcelain veneers can dramatically improve facial appearance. Porcelain veneers are used to enhance tooth shape, size, color and alignment. Veneers are recommended when teeth are darkened or discolored and have not responded optimally to whitening procedures or when teeth are broken, chipped or uneven, but do not require crowns. In some cases, veneers are an esthetic alternative to orthodontics or they may enhance orthodontic results. A periodontist may be consulted if the gum line needs to be corrected. Veneer color shades can range from a completely natural look to the classic "movie-star" bright white smile. Veneers offer long lasting results, up to ten years or more. The procedure is conservative and relatively painless. The Doctors practice minimal tooth structure removal to prepare teeth for veneers. Recent research shows that veneers may actually strengthen natural teeth.
During the initial consultation, Dr. Priest discusses the patient’s esthetic requirements including the number, color, shape and size of the veneers. During the first clinical appointment, Dr. Priest takes digital images of the “before” teeth and smile. Dr. Priest meticulously charts tooth color and form for precise communication to the on-site laboratory. The teeth are prepared to receive veneers and an impression is made. Dr. Priest then customizes temporary veneers and bonds them in place. The patient should evaluate the temporary veneers for relative shape, size and color. The final veneers are ready in approximately 3 weeks. At the subsequent seating appointment, Dr. Priest and patient verify fit and appearance of the final veneers. Then the individual veneers are bonded to their corresponding teeth. digital pictures of the “after” teeth and smile are compared to the “before” pictures to illustrate the dramatic improvement in the patient’s smile.
