Female, age 18: Darkened teeth and peg shaped incisors restored with whitening and 2 veneers
Tooth whitening is a safe and effective method for restoring a brighter, more youthful appearance to your natural teeth. It is less costly than other esthetic procedures. We offer three types of whitening treatment: 1) at home treatment, 2) in-office treatment and 3) a combination of both in-office and at home. All treatments offer the same level of whitening potential. For patients that want immediate results, the in-office treatment is preferred. For patients that want to personally control the level the whitening, the at home treatment is recommended. Some patients opt for a combination of both types of treatment, beginning with the in-office method, following up with the at home system to maintain the desired level of whitening.
For at home treatment, impressions for whitening trays are made during the first appointment. Within a week, the patient can return to the office to pick-up the custom clear trays, a supply of pharmaceutical-grade whitening gel and instructions for home usage. The duration of treatment is based on the initial color of the patients teeth and the desired whitening level. Patients are given a color chart to monitor their progress. Generally, patients reach the optimal brightness within three to six weeks. Trays may need to be worn occasionally for color maintenance.
If you elect in-office whitening treatment, this will usually require a single 1 hour appointment. During this appointment, the hygienist or dental assistant will apply a concentrated carbamide peroxide gel onto your teeth. You will receive 3 or 4 whitening cycles during the visit. Each whitening application requires approximately 15 minutes. In some cases, a second appointment is required to achieve the desired results.
